How to Validate a Product Idea Before Launching

The 5-Step Validation Framework

Step 1: Data Check (5 minutes)

Run your product idea through the Product Analyzer. You'll get:

Competition level

Pass threshold: PMF score above 60 and risk below 50.

Step 2: Competitor Audit (15 minutes)

Identify their weaknesses (your opportunities)

Pass threshold: At least one clear weakness you can exploit.

Step 3: Financial Viability (5 minutes)

Include real shipping costs
Set ad budget at 15-20% of revenue
Include platform fees

Pass threshold: Net margin above 30%.

Step 4: Market Demand Test (1 week)

Create a simple landing page or social media post about your product. Drive 100-200 visitors with a small ad budget (€50-€100):
Measure click-through rate (should be > 2%)
Measure sign-up or add-to-cart rate (should be > 5%)
Read the comments for buying signals

Pass threshold: Measurable interest from real people.

Step 5: Small Batch Test (2-4 weeks)

Order the minimum quantity possible (50-100 units). Sell through your chosen channel. Track:
Cost per acquisition
Return rate
Customer feedback
Repeat purchase rate

Pass threshold: Positive unit economics and positive feedback.

When to Kill a Product Idea

Kill the idea if:

PMF score below 50
Net margin below 20%
Landing page test shows < 1% interest
First 50 units have > 20% return rate

It's better to kill fast and test a new idea than to keep investing in a losing product.
